Art & Culture

Kobe’s waterfront will once again burst into the vibrant colors of India this autumn as “India Mela 2025” returns to Meriken Park.
Since its launch in 2010, this festival has grown into western Japan’s largest Indian cultural event, celebrating the friendship between India and Japan.

Shop for Spices, Ingredients, and Imported Goods

Rare vegetables directly imported from India are on display and for sale.

Beyond the food stalls, visitors can browse a range of booths selling Indian groceries and ingredients — including curry powders, lentils, teas, and rare vegetables imported directly from India.
There are also colorful sarees, incense, and small items that make perfect souvenirs.
The festival atmosphere, filled with vibrant colors and fragrances, feels like stepping into an Indian marketplace.

Stage Performances: Music, Dance, and Bollywood Energy

Traditional Indian dance and music performances take place on the main stage throughout the day.

Throughout the festival, the main stage will feature a variety of performances — from classical Indian dance and live instrumental music to energetic Bollywood shows.
One of this year’s highlights is the return of the beloved “Let’s Dance Bollywood” event, where around 200 participants join together in a massive group dance, creating a truly unforgettable scene.
Performers from India will also appear on stage, offering authentic sounds and movements that capture the essence of Indian culture.

Fun for All Ages: Workshops and Cultural Experiences

“India Mela” isn’t just about watching — it’s about joining in.
Families can enjoy hands-on experiences like a Hindi language mini-class and saree dressing demonstrations.
New this year are interactive attractions such as a stamp rally puzzle game organized by student volunteers and a quiz competition in collaboration with Indian university students.
It’s a welcoming event where everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy learning about India in a relaxed outdoor setting.
