In Kobe’s Kitano district, a historic former elementary school has been transformed into a cultural and gourmet complex called Kobe Kitano Nosta. Inside, the shop NOSTA SWEETS offers a new souvenir: Kobe Kitano Aoitori. With high-quality local ingredients and a package design inspired by Kobe’s history, it’s a gift that delights both in taste and story.
A New Souvenir from Kobe Kitano Nosta
Kobe Kitano Nosta is a unique complex that opened in 2025 after renovating the former Kitano Elementary School, a historic building in central Kobe. The facility now houses restaurants, shops, and event spaces while preserving the charm of its Meiji-era origins. On the first floor, NOSTA SWEETS has quickly become a popular stop for visitors seeking a special Kobe souvenir.
Locally Made with Kobe’s Traditional Flour
The signature product, Kobe Kitano Aoitori (literally “Blue Bird of Kitano”), is made with flour from a long-established Kobe milling company. The sweets come in three varieties: crisp cookies, soft milk manju (a Japanese sweet bun with filling), and rich, buttery financiers. Each offers a different taste experience, making them perfect for sharing or gifting.
A Package that Unfolds Kobe’s Past
What makes Aoitori truly memorable is not only the flavor but also the package. Inside the box is a printed map of Kobe from the Meiji period (late 19th century), when the original Kitano Elementary School was built. Opening the box feels like stepping into Kobe’s past, adding a cultural layer to the souvenir experience.
Perfect as a Gift or a Memory from Kobe
With its elegant packaging and historical story, Kobe Kitano Aoitori makes an ideal gift for friends, family, or colleagues. More than just a sweet treat, it offers a sense of place—combining Kobe’s heritage with modern craftsmanship in a way that both locals and visitors can appreciate.
